hotkeys + clipbook entries?

Post by brian welch »

hi, i'm demoing this software at the moment, trying to decide if i want to pick it up for regular use (java, jsp, servlets, etc.)

i *thought* it was this product someone had told me about a while back that could insert clipbook entries at a customized keystroke..

i found the keyboard customize part of the pref's, but it was only for menu entries, not for clipbook entries.. helpfiles didn't help, nor did the FAQ, so here i am. |grin|

can anyone help?

thanks much,

brian welch

If you go to View -> Clip Library a side window will appear with clipbooks of standard functions. You can add your own or customize the ones that come with Textpad (see the .tcl files in \program files\textpad 4\samples\).

Unfortunately, there is no way to enter a specific clipbook item, based on a key command.

It is a good idea, but one that seems to have some sticky issues that need addressing. Like, if you allow a key command to the "third" item in clip book "X", how do you deal with a new item being added before it...so the formerly "third" item is now the "fourth"...

hm, but why reference the hotkey to the number-of-clip?

i would imagine it would be simple enough to point it to a unique "key" (like the clip's name) or a field in the clipbook's entry

well, i bought it anyway, but i really hope they see this and implement it into the next service release *(:=

thanks for the posts, guys, i had given up on the forum after a few days *(:=

I just finished reading another thread specifically about improvement suggestions wherein the moderator stepped in and basically told everyone, "discussing suggests are fine, but if you want us to know about them actually submit them using the form on our site" (my actual words, not the moderators, I'm paraphrasing) I guess they don't have the time to read hundreds of forum posts, all with different subjects and search for relevant "next version" suggestion... go figure! :-)

Anyway, just thought you may wish to know their official policy / request on "put this in the next version please" type of comments.
