I can't say for sure that it is related to Textpad installation, however...
I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. I installed Textpad 4.4. After the installation was completed, I tried to open up an Explorer file manager window, and my system froze up. (i had no other programs running). After a while of waiting, I gave up and forced a shutdown from the TaskManager. On reboot and logging on, a dialog box popped up saying that some system files had been replaced with unverified versions, and to insert my win2k professional CD. And of course in typical M$ fashioin, it refused to recognize my cd (perfectly legit one no less). So I had to cancel out of that dialog (it wouldn't allow for browsing for a location or anything).
Anyway, just wondering if Textpad came bundled with any system dlls that may be older then what is distributed with win2k. I have VS6 installed with the VS sp4, and all the latest updates for win2k (except for the win2k compatibility updates). In other words, my system had the latest files on them, and so the possibility exists that TextPad put an older version on then what was there and cause a problem.
Just letting you know there may be an issue.

RE: crash after installing 4.4
Chris,
All TextPad's files are copied to the installation folder that you specify to the setup program. It does not update any system DLL's, so none are included in the setup package. Where version specific resources are needed, TextPad dynamically loads the DLL, and checks if it supports the required feature. This is how it can still run on NT 3.51, albeit with reduced capabilities.
InstallShield may copy its uninstallation program to the Windows folder, if it wasn't already there.
I hope this reassures you about TextPad, but I guess you'll now be worried about what else could have caused the problem.

RE: crash after installing 4.4
Sounds fair enough. Just a bad coincidence is all. Keep up the good work. Any software app that is considerate of versions, and dynamically loads version specific items instead of forcing a person to have something on their system that they may not want, gets an extra plus in my book
