Most of the time I run TextPad with timed backup turned on. However if I'm working - as I sometimes need to - on very large files, which need a lot of searching but very few changes, I choose to turn backup off as the time it would take to re-make the changes to a file is minimal whereas the time taken to save the multiple large files (up to 500 Mb each) is considerably more.
Until recently that was fine: Configure | Preferences | Backup.
With v8.23.2 and v8.23.3 TextPad appears to do the backups anyway regardless of that setting.
Roughly every half hour I get the hour-glass appearing, and keyboard/mouse are ineffective, for between 20 and 30 seconds even when the Backup option is unchecked.
Another possible "Difference in Behaviour" (v8.23.2 and v8.23.3): Configure | Preferences | Backup

I set backups to automatically save every 1 minute, and created a new document with a couple of characters in it. I then observed this folder in Windows File Explorer:
The backup file was replaced each minute, as expected.
I then disabled automatic backups which deleted the backup file, and no others were subsequently created.
What are you doing differently?
Code: Select all
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Helios\TextPadI then disabled automatic backups which deleted the backup file, and no others were subsequently created.
