TextPad 8.23.3 does not work on Windows 7

When I install TextPad 8.23.3 in Windows 7 32-bits, it does not work.

I have this message when I launch TextPad:

The procedure entry point GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

I have reinstalled TextPad 8.23.2 and it works.

I think there is an incompatibility. This function GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime is not present in Windows 7. It was created in Windows 8.

Is TextPad 8 still compatible with Windows 7?

Why asking if you found proof that it won't support Win7 anymore?

However, a minor version should not increase the system requirements - I would not even expect such a drastic change from version 8.23.x to 8.24.x (only from 8.x to 9.x). Maybe the culprit is the changed behavior of a compiler...

A workaround is VxKex which hacks Win7 into running a few programs/routines that aren't meant for that system anymore. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Because the download page says that TextPad 8 runs on Windows 7.

It's a guess, but it could also be whatever was done to fix opening files older than 1970, mentioned in the release notes.

TextPad 8.23.3 does not directly call GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime. It was built with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio which must link with a library that does call it. We've rebuilt with the previous version and it now runs on Windows 7. This is available for download now.

The version is still 8.23.3, so it is necessary to uninstall TextPad using Control Panel, before installing this update. Windows File Explorer shows its file version as 8.23.3.1.
