Using wildcards in the rename dialog

Post by WayneCa »

The help shows this:
How to Rename a File
From the File Menu, choose Manage Files (F3). The Manage Files dialog appears.
Toolbar:
Type the name of the file that you want to rename. This may include a path if it is not in the current working folder. The filename may be a wildcard pattern if you want to rename multiple files.
Click Rename. The Rename dialog appears.
Type the new name that you want to give the file. If this is just a pathname, the file is moved to that folder, keeping its original file name.
Click OK.
I tried using *.txt and the function returned:

*.txt was not found

What wildcards are available, and how do you use them in the rename function? There is nothing in the help about wildcards.

Rename should be disabled as it's not appropriate in that context.

If you've installed the PowerToys app from the Windows store, it's PowerRename feature might help you with that.
