Empty Screen on program startup from explorer

Textpad 8.23.2 Windows, 64bit

When I click on a file from explorer with a recognized textpad file extension (eg *.txt) .. Textpad starts with an empty screen (no blank doc). I have tried multiple extensions and rebooted my PC but to no avail.

Clicking on File Open always works. If textpad is already running with a file open, then that problem does NOT happen and file displays correctly. Also if I change a setting in preference then the file will finally display. (strange)

Other than removing / installing textpad again (which I have not tried) .. is there any fix?

If you previously made the file associations with TextPad 7 or 9 it's possible that file explorer is still trying to send messages to that version. Try deleting the *.txt association then remaking it using Windows/Settings/Apps/Default Apps. If that helps, do the same for any other associations.
