TextPad 9.7.0 breaks opening files by double clicking in Explorer

Post by Mr. Code Monkey »

I upgraded to 9.7.0 and immediately set the "Force File Explorer to start new instances" option. Thank you for that!
(Note however that this new option has no entry in the help file.)

But with that new option set, TextPad misbehaves when double-clicking files from Windows Explorer.
  1. Suppose for example that I click on file C:\Temp\READ ME.txt.
  2. TextPad starts a new instance -- good
  3. BUT it does this by creating a new file called "READ" and then asking if I want to create "C:\Temp\ME.txt" ! -- bad
    EG:
    double click error.png
double click error.png (22.74 KiB) Viewed 3413 times
  4. It's even worse if there are more non letter characters in the filename or path.
Obviously, double clicking should just open the original file in a new instance.

With the "Force File Explorer to start new instances" option unchecked, the correct file opens with no erroneous popups. But then the file clutters one of my existing TextPad instances, which is quite annoying.

Unchecking the option "Allow multiple files on the command line" should fix this. It shouldn't be necessary, so we'll handle it in the next release.

Huh. I didn't get an email about a reply...

Anyway, thanks for the pledge to fix.

By default you won't - you'd have to actively subscribe to a topic to get notifications. Check the following:
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes & not full.

Also verified that the email address works correctly for 3 other senders and there is nothing from this site in spam, junk, nor graymail folders. (although it's been weeks since you posted and those are all auto-flushed of older messages)
