Good afternoon all,
Long time listener, first time caller.
I just upgraded my Windows 11 Pro system to 24H2, and now after I open TextPad 9 and click the Open icon(or Ctrl+O) the process spins until TextPad crashes. I can successfully open the document using document invocation, but I'd rather not clutter up my Desktop any more than it already is.
Anyone else have this issue? I did search the boards, but didn't come up with anything. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

We've not received any other reports of this problem so I don't know why it's affecting you. Do you have an unusual network file system?
Try selecting "Use the standard file open dialog box" on Configure » Preferences » File, and see if that makes any difference.

By "Desktop" do you mean exactly that in Windows, or are you speaking of your computer in general? Because I don't get what you mean by "clutter up" in any of those contexts.saxophobe wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 7:23 pmI can successfully open the document using document invocation, but I'd rather not clutter up my Desktop any more than it already is.
There are many alternative ways to open files (most of them even work apart from TextPad):
- Right click on file, then choose "open".
- Right click on file, choose "open with...", then choose the appropriate application. If not listed, choose "other" and browse for it yourself.
- Right click on file, then choose "Open with TextPad" (it should have its own icon next to the menu item).
- Double click the file (that's the same as right clicking and then choosing "open" - which is also the reason why that menu item is printed in bold, as that's the default action).
- Drag the file and drop it into the open TextPad window. Alternatively you can drag a file and hover it over TextPad's task button - that brings its window into the foreground/makes it visible, so you can drop the file there.
