v 9.3.1 context menu

Post by lontjr »

{Just as an aside, on this forum, what happens when you choose "Save Draft"? My draft I saved on this topic is nowhere to be found. Sure, it could be me, but I looked everywhere, even behind the dryer where my socks are. So, I'm retyping it}

Ok, previous versions, config item "context menu" is on, target file (*.txt) is in the Associated Files list.

8.1.10 - from Windows File Explorer or Q-Dir (Quad Directory Explorer, which I think uses the same interface):
  • left double click on the file, file opens a new instance of TextPad, file is opened in it
  • right click on the file, context menu shows a choice of TextPad instances to open
9.3.1 - from Explorer or Q-Dir:
  • left double click on file opens the file in the "first" TextPad instance. Not the most recently active instance, but the first one opened.
  • right click opens in context menu, opens in new TextPad instance.
I really like the previous behaviour, it was very convenient to be able to choose what instance I was opening the file in.

Note: like other config items, I've learned: you open TextPad raw, no files, make the change, then close. Don't have T/P instances hanging around at the time. This is standard Windows behaviour. Windows actually doesn't like you opening other apps while it's thinking...

In phpBB (this board software) you find your drafts in UCP > Overview > Manage drafts. Click on your username with avatar on the top right to see a menu with a link to the User Control Panel (UCP), which also contains other vital settings.

This is the expected behaviour of TextPad 9 when opening files from Windows File Explorer:
  • Double click associated file: opens in first instance.
  • Right click and choose Open with TextPad: opens in new instance.
  • When more than one instance is running, Open in TextPad Session opens in the selected instance.
See this topic, if you always want files opened in a new instance.
