Toolbars will not stay in place after closing the program, then re-opening

Post by djheiss915 »

Been having an issue that started with 9.2, though not right away. Maybe a week before updating to 9.3. The issue is that the Toolbars will not stay in place after closing the program, then re-opening.

For example: I have the standard and macro toolbars visible. I have them placed with the Macro bar on the extreme left, with the standard toolbar next to it. No they won't hold those positions when I close then open.

Anyone else have this problem? How do i fix it?

The state of the toolbar layout is saved in GUIConfig.xml in this folder:

%APPDATA%\Helios\TextPad\9

Check that you've got write access to it. (You could try opening that file in TextPad, adding an empty line at the end, and saving it.)

If you have more than one instance of TextPad running, that file will contain the state of the last instance to close.

Maybe that file is corrupt. Try renaming or deleting it when TextPad is not running, then starting TextPad, make your changes and exit.

Deleting the file worked, and now the toolbars are staying where I put them. Now if only I could fix the problem of not being able to "Pin" files to the right click menu on the taskbar.

Thanks

Thanks for confirming.

I'm not sure what you mean by pinning files but does this help?

What I mean by pinning files is, with Textpad open, if you right click on the Textpad title (or icon) that is in the taskbar, it brings up a menu of previously open text files (or whatever you opened.) At the extreme right side of each item, is an option to pin it to that menu. similar to pinning to Quick Access in explorer.

He's talking about jump lists:

Most likely this is a Windows problem (version and update specific), not one of TextPad. Did you try results from https://www.google.ca/search?q=taskbar+pin+recent+files?

That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It shows the recent files but won't let me PIN them. Thanks, I check the link.
