CTRL + key pad number not working
On my previous version of TextPad pressing CTRL and a number on the keypad would in the past take you to the document in the document select. For exampe, CTRL+4 on the key pad would jump me to the fourth document shown in the document selector. Now, CTRL+any number on the keypad gets strange, inconsistent results.

I don't know which version you were using previously, but in both 7.6.4 and 8.5.1, pressing Ctrl and a number on the keypad switches to the corresponding document in the Window menu, not the corresponding document in the Document Selector.
I can't think of any use for this feature. You can't see the order of the windows unless you open Window menu, which makes the shortcut key redundant. Moreover, the order changes as soon as you switch to a different window, which would account for the "strange, inconsistent results" you're seeing.
If it helps, Alt+1 opens the Document Selector and Ctrl+Tab/Ctrl+Shift+Tab (or Ctrl+F6/Ctrl+Shift+F6) move through the documents in forward/reverse tab order.
