Recovering configuration

Post by Mike Olds »

Hello,

I just experienced a catasrophic crash. I believe caused by a warn out trackball, but whatever the cause it wiped out my configuration file. I am nearly recovered setting all my preferences from scratch, and now I would like to avoid this problem in future. So the question is, where is the configuration file and is there anything special to know about restoring it in the event of a fail?

EDIT: Also: did the proprietary Unicode input tool change from ALT + U to Alt + X? with 8.4? I mean it must have, but I don't see any notice of that in the Release notes.
Thank you, and
Best Wishes,
Obo

All configurations are saved at a place that is typical to Windows for many years already per program - for TextPad all files can be found in %AppData%\Helios\TextPad\8\ (just enter that as path, it will auto expand into i.e. C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Helios\TextPad\8\).

ALT+U was chosen by you, see: Bug? in use of EditUnicodChar command

Hello Amigo,

Thank you for your response. I guess the question then should be how come it worked before with my U? But nevermind, it is working and that is the important thing.

And thank you for pointing out the location of the configuration file; I did in fact find it there myself.

I got no notice of this response.
Thank you, and
