Autosave broken in 8.0.2

Post by mr-b »

Just spotted that some of my files were missing recent updates, and my PC has had some stability issues recently (so I had relied on autosave). Checked that my autosave was set to backup every minute, but the files' time stamps were way out of date!

Went back to 7.6.2 and files are autosaving as normal.

Not at all happy about losing a bunch of work and my faith in TP has been pretty much shattered! :-(
Is autosave not part of basic regression testing with a new release??? Obvs not!

Autosave is still broken in 8.1.2 (64 bit)

This is still broken in 8.1.2. I'm downgrading to 7.6.4.

Please fix so that I can go back to TextPad 8.

This is what I was looking for. Downloading 7.6.4 now.

So... is the only problem the file date or the file's content? Because the original post only issued the former and everyone else joining just referred to it.

Maybe files ARE auto-saved, but their file dates are preserved. Also nobody is reporting back how version 7 and 8 differ in this behavior.

Just to reassure everybody, files are backed up, but TextPad 8 uses Windows Restart Manager to do it. This involves saving files to this location:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Helios\TextPad

with names such as 1FBC9D7F496D42a9890838415D048C05.OriginalName.txt

This information is also stored in the registry, so that if TextPad crashes, Windows can automatically restart it, and reload any files from the list in the registry.

Auto-save =/= file backup.
