No syntax highlighting when "Open with TextPad"

Post by gpalmer »

I have defined several user document classes in TextPad 8.2 with syntax highlighting and associated clip books.

When I open TextPad, then use "File >> Open" to navigate to one of these files (let's say extension .xyz for example), then click on the desired ".xyz" file, all is good. The file opens and my syntax highlighting is properly applied. My user-defined clip books are all available for selection from the Clip Library drop-down list.

But if I go to Windows Explorer, then right-click on an ".xyz" file to open the context menu, then select "Open with TextPad", the file opens with no syntax highlighting. When I look in Configure >> Preferences >> Document Classes, none of my user document classes appear in the expanded Document Class list. None of my user clip books are shown in the Clip Library drop-down list.

Shouldn't the context menu "Open with TextPad" incorporate the same Document Classes and Clip Books as seen when opening TextPad directly? My answer is "Yes!" it should.

Am I missing something?

Sounds like you have two versions of textpad installed.

When you start textpad you use one version, while the Explorer shortcut points to another ...

Check the Help -> About dialog in both situations ...

Eureka! Exactly right, and easily corrected with that explanation.

Thanks for the quick and correct solution!
