For many years, I've appreciated the "Rename" command in the "File" menu, for a variety of reasons.
I recently, sigh, moved to Windows 10. Installed the then current Textpad (8.1.2, 64 bit)
At first. the File/rename command is always grayed out, unusable.... at least it always was when I went to use it!
As I was writing this up, I discovered the reason: In Configure/ Preferences/ File, I had ticked the "Keep files locked while editing them" box. Do that, and you lose "rename".
A wrinkle: If you HAD it ticked, and untick it... I think you have to go out of Textpad, i.e. shut it down, and then restart it before "rename" comes back.
SOLVED: File-Rename always grayed out
