Menu Bar Missing

Post by tfernand2009 »

Hi,
My textpad 7 suddenly has all the top menus missing. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still ended up with the same display.
Please help.
Thanks.

Please try renaming the XML file (ConfigState.xml), to see if that solves the problem. Exit from TextPad before renaming the file.

In windows 7 it's stored here:

C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Helios\TextPad\7.

A new XML file will be created when you start TextPad, but if the problem isn't resolved you can exit again, delete the new file and rename the original file in order to return to your previous configuration.

I hope this helps.

Hi "bbadmin"
Thank you for the advice. I tried renaming the ConfigState.xml file, but I still get the same result - MISSING MENU BAR.
Could it be that something else needs to be changed?
Thanks.

You could try this:
  1. If there is no toolbar visible, click View > Toolbars > Standard.
  2. Right-click the toolbar and select Customize.
  3. Select Menu Bar and then click Reset.

Hi ak47wong,
Don't know how to perform the View -> Toolbars...
I don't have the Menu Bar right now.
Can you tell me how access View -> Toolbars?
Thanks.

Oh yeah, good point. I guess I didn't think those instructions through enough...

I can't think of any remedies other than what bbadmin wrote earlier. I can only suggest trying those steps again.

Menu Bar Missing

Hi All,
Got help from Helios - Thanks Stephen.

So what finally solved this issue and restored the Menu Bar is to rename the GUIState.xml.
This is located in:

In windows 7 it's stored here:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Helios\TextPad\7

Thanks everybody and to Stephen of Helios.

Happy Holidays!
