Save seems to behave like Save As

Post by terrypin »

This is driving me nuts.

Sometimes (not always!) when I edit some of my frequently used text files, and save it using Ctrl + s, I get told it already exists and asked if I want to replace it. It's as if I used File > Save As, instead of just File > Save.

Anyone have any idea as to the likely cause and why is this happening only intermittently please? Better, a way of fixing it. The files in question are in my TP workspace and TP is always running.

Could it somehow be because the files are amongst several that I sync automatically (with Microsoft ActiveSync) to my smartphone? But why would that background actiivity affect TextPad?

That happens when the size or last write time of a file is different from when TextPad opened it. The attention is to alert you to a change which you may not wish to overwrite. Don't know why Microsoft ActiveSync is changing the last write time, although synchronisation is a two-way thing.
