Settings repeatedly lost

I'm frustrated to discover that these settings have reverted to defaults.

1. Colours for Selected Text (No focus)
2. Syntax text highlighting (for URLs)

Is there some basic point I'm missing?

Where are these stored so that I can recover them quickly please?
