Context Menu shortcut not working (TextPad 7.4 64bit)

Post by lklawrie »

I just recently installed TP 7.4 64bit and the context menu for Windows Explorer doesn't show up.

I've done a modify installation and a repair and it still doesn't show. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?

Go to Configure, Preferences, General

Is the Context Menu checkbox grayed out, or can you check and uncheck it?
(2[Bb]|[^2].|.[^Bb])

That is the question.

[Resolved] In Windos 8.1 64 bit context menu does not appear

Post by Roope »

I just got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and installed Textpad 7.4 64 bit edition. Since then, I've been clicking the "Context menu" checkbox without any luck: the context menu does not appear. I've checked the registry and everything is there (context menu handler and it points to shellext64.dll). The machine has been rebooted several times but no luck.

In a previous computer - Windows 7 64 bit the context menu worked ok.

Is there any way to get this working?

I finally got this working:
I right clicked on TextPad.exe and selected "Troubleshoot compatibility" then selected "Troubleshoot program", checked "The program requires additional permissions". Tested that the Textpad was started ok, saved these settings and closed the troubleshooter. After that, uncheced (Apply), checked (Apply) the "Context menu". This gave me TextPad in the context menu. When tried to launch the Textpad via context menu gave an error "The requested operation requires elevation" so I shoot the troubleshooter again and this time removed any additional permissions". After all these - now I have the Textpad in the context menu. After all, this problem seems to be related to Windows 8 security (although my account is a member of the local administrator group).
