Adding Description of System: This is a Compaq Presario SR1475CL with 1.4GHz CPU, 2.0 GB of RAM and two >100 GB hard drives.
Occasionally or sometimes often (a dozen times a day) Textpad 7 locks up (freezes) and cannot be used until it resolves the problem.
Eventually it recovers, thought the wait time can be up to five minutes.
This happens both in manual and auto save. During lockup, the screen goes variously gray, etc.
The hangup seems to occur only when the cursor is in the interior of the text body.
If one remembers to do it before saving, the problem can be prevented by placing the cursor at the end of the file, then adding add an extra space just to make sure the End of File marker is updated.
It appears Textpad needs to be positively certain where that EOF mark is. Then it realigns the memory array afresh and saves properly.
Adding text in the middle of the body seems to move the data in memory past the existing EOF marker, which causes the problem.
If Autosave is on, the problem can occur while typing. Then there is no chance to prevent the freeze.
Events where the cursor is in the middle of the file can occur when editing there, or when pasting a text selection in.
Most of my files are fairly long, at least 2k and some much more.
I've used Textpad ever since the very first version. It makes other text editors look horrible.
