Corruption of all open files after sharing issue

Post by mr-b »

Hi

I've just experienced a nasty multiple file corruption (zeroing) episode with TP 5.4.2.

I had multiple files open on my main PC and then subsequently opened (and edited) one of those files from a remote laptop. On my return to my main PC there were many dialogue boxes open with something like file sharing error or somesuch). I was unable to close the dialogue boxes and the PC (Windows 7/64) would only let me kill the process via Task Manager.

Then I tried to re-open the files and they were all blank. :-(
Next I ran HxD hex editor to find that the files were the same size but now comprised all zeros. :-( :-(
I had some backups but I still lost significant amounts of work.

I thought I had originally enabled the File prefs option "Keep files locked while editing them" and "Open locked files read only" but they both now are unchecked, so I have re-enabled them (I'd have thought that safety options should be enabled by default). However I'm not sure whether those options were relevant in this case. It does seem very bad that zeroing of *any* file, let alone every file I had open could occur at all.

Any ideas how to prevent this in future?
