Logging on to a Windows 7 workstation which is a member of a windows domain, Textpad 5.4.2 doesn't remember the file association I set in preferences/associated files after a logoff/logon.
On the same computer, logging on to a local account the setting is remembered.
A workaround seems to be to use the built in windows default programs control panel, but it has the annoying result of opening a new instance of Textpad each time I double click a text file.
I have a handful of unrelated small networks that I manage, each with a Linux/Samba domain, and the behavior is common to all of the systems.
Textpad forgets file associations in roaming profiles

Well, you may not be actually using a 'roaming' profile if changes to the profile are not saved between settings. The purpose of a roaming profile is to do exactly this.
Mitec.cz makes an offline registry viewer where you can see if the changes are being written out.
-Might you be using Mandatory profiles?
-Have you set a GPO to not save these kinds of profile changes?
You can create a custom .adm file and make a GPO from it.
you can create a .reg file and merge each time you log in.
There may be other ways to do this as well.
