Error opening a dictionary

Post by Nicksgarage »

On my Windows 7 64 bit computer I upgraded from 4.7 to 5.4 textpad and now the spell checking doesn't work. I get the error message "Error opening a dictionary". I uninstalled the app and started over. Reinstalled the dictionary and still the error.

I uninstalled version 5 and went back to 4 and spelling works.

Spelling works in version 5.2.0 on my Windows 7 32bit laptop. I'm afraid to upgrade that computer to 5.4 if it's going to break. I don't have the install files for 5.2 to try it on the 64 bit computer.

Any ideas on how to fix this or am I stuck with version 4?

It is possible that the dictionary files have not been moved from the TextPad 4 Spelling sub folder into the TextPad 5 sub folder. If that is the case, then simply move them to the Spelling sub folder of your TextPad 5 installation folder.

I hope this helps.

I uninstalled both versions and then installed version 5 and still not working. When I install the dictionary files they show up in the spelling directory like they should.

Maybe I'll try a different language.
