Textpad Opens files blank

When I open files that have data in Textpad 5.4.2 the main edit window is blank and you can not type anything into it. If you do type something the file name shows that a change has been made and you can save them and see them in Notepad. If you open a blank file the same thing happens, you can edit it but you can see anything and when you put the pointer over the text area it is a pointer and doesn't change.

This is Windows 7 x64. We tried it on another exact same machine and it works on it but just not on this machine.

After spending the day banging my head against this I finally figured out that the Courier font was corrupt on this machine and for some reason this was causing the problem.
