Find in Files searching Binary files

Post by pgwilliams »

Hi All

I'm seeing behaviour in 5.4.2 (and previously 5.3.x) where when I do "Find in Files", Textpad is searching through binary files (and I've got a lot of jpgs since I'm working on a website project so it takes ages) when I've not ticked the "binary files" check box.

Perhaps this is a misunderstanding on my part about how that checkbox is supposed to work because when I tick it, the search does seem to behave differently. In that case, I'll be suggesting an enhancement of a "skip binary files" checkbox.

Yes I could be a bit tighter about which files types I search in, but that list comes to 7 or so items so I'd rather just search all non-binary files without having to think to hard or type out a long list.

Totally excellent product by the way, I use it every day for programming just about any language. An essential purchase.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I don't know about the binary files issue but for your list of 7 items, I suggest that if you type those 7 file names into a text file, one on each line, then name that text file with a ".lnt" extension, e.g. "filelist.lnt" you could pass that to PC-Lint instead of the list of file names and PC Lint would then lint all of those 7 files.

I hope this helps.
