Hi,
If I set the preference Word break at column number at 65. Shouldn't the words break to the next line automatically when exceeding this number? It doesn't work for me.
Can anybody please help me?
Thanks

Have you actually got word wrapping enabled? Check on the Configure menu whether Word Wrap is selected.
The "Word break at column number" setting determines where word wrapping and paragraph reformatting occurs. In your case it will be at column 65. If the setting is cleared, the width of the TextPad window is used instead.

This is set using the word break column, which can be set differently for each document class.
For example, to configure it to 65 for the Text class
(*.txt):
1) From the Configure menu, choose Preferences.
2) Click the "+" next to Document Classes.
3) Select "Text".
4) Check "Word wrap long lines" and "Save with hard breaks".
5) Check "Word wrap at column number", and type 65 in the box.
6) Click OK.
As you type, words will wrap with a soft break, which will be converted to a hard break when the document is saved, or for selected text, by using the Split Wrapped Lines command, on the Edit menu. You can join selected lines back together again, using the Reformat command.

Thank you very much for your help ak47wong and helios.
I'm not sure I understand your last lines, helios. I don't see any Split Wrapped Lines command on the Edit menu. However I have followed the 6 steps. Actually I have also tried this before by clicking on view/document properties/preferences. Two different entries for the same goal. But the lines don't break at 65 just by doing these settings.
But after these settings if I click on configure/word wrap, like ak47wong said, the lines break at 65. Maybe that is also what you mean helios.
Thank you guys.
