Windows 7.
The root level TextPad context menu opens TextPad, but doesn't open the file I selected.
Weirdness: If TextPad is already open, then the existing TextPad instance comes to the front and *does* open the file.
What up with that?

I'm having the same problem
newly installed 5.4.2 on Window 7 Enterprise x64 SP 1
Right-click on a file and select Text Pad in the contextual menu
Text Pad starts up but does not do anything
Right-click on a file and select "Open with" Text Pad in the contextual menu
Text Pad starts up but throws an error
"There was a problem sending the command to the program"
Neither one of these occur if Text Pad is already open

Well it is working. Not sure of the fix but this is what I've done.
1. Turned off the tips screen.
2. Right after turning the tip screen off I upgraded my system to Windows 8. When I click on a .txt file Textpad no opens the file properly. So...
Try turning off the tip screen to see if that in fact fixed it. I think it may have possibly been the fix because nothing else works until you close it.
