setting up colours in TextPad 5

Hi
I have been trying to set up the colours in TextPad 5 in Windows7 but I can't get anything to work.
I have set them up before but since crashing and reloading the computer it won't work for me.
The files I am using are *.gss and i think the script is in C .
I would be quite happy to set up the default and that would cover everything.
I need someone to GENTLY walk me through the setup as I don't have much experience with it.
Can anyone help me please.
