open MS word docs from find in files

Post by vanhaven »

Is it possible to open MS word docs from the find in files results and have the word doc open at the location of the find result?

Basically i need to search 100s of word documents and then from the results in text pad be able to click and open the word document containing the result at the location in the word document?

I think it's unlikely that TextPad is the best tool for this. TextPad is a plain text editor for editing [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Text_editor]plain text files[/]. Microsoft word files are binary files and there is no simple 1:1 correspondance between the text searched for and the internal storage of the text.

As an example here's how this text looks in a Word document opened in TextPad:

Your best option for searching Word files is either to use Word's own 'find in files' search tool or the Explorer option to look for text inside files.

Hope this helps.
Running TextPad 5.4 on Windows XP SP3 and on OS X 10.7 under VMWare or Crossover.
