TextPad opens automatically when starting Windows XP

Post by juanfdezgcia »

Maybe I should post this in a Windows XP forum, but I hope someone can give me a hand here :-)

I'm experiencing the following: each time I start my PC, which runs Windows XP Home Edition SP3, TextPad is launched automatically. I've checked the following files contained inside C:\WINDOWS\System32\:

Autoexec.nt
Config.nt

But there's nothing related to TextPad there, could someone give me a tip on how to solve this?, it is rather annoying when a program launches automatically and you don't need it at that particular time.

Thanks,
Juan

Autoexec? You're living in the 90s :) Autoexec.nt isn't used to run programs at system startup (like AUTOEXEC.BAT does in DOS).

First of all, in TextPad, click Configure, then Preferences, and then General. Under Put shortcuts to TextPad on, check if StartUp menu is selected. If it is, clear it.

If that doesn't solve the problem, click Start and then Run. Type msconfig and click OK. On the Startup tab, look for an entry for TextPad. If you find one, clear the check box to disable it from running at startup.

If that still doesn't solve it, try running Autoruns to diagnose the problem.
