Textpad 5.3 looking for textpad 4 *.syn file

When I open textpad 5.3.1 by clicking on a *.tws file, I get a message box

error accessing c:\program files\textpad 4\system\cpp.syn

How do I generate a new *.tws file that avoids this error?

As a corollary, double clicking on the Tool Output error lines always gives a status line error

unable to jump to item under the cursor

The Regex expression is OK.

It is not immediately apparent that these two issues are connected.

For your second question, you haven't supplied much information. Did my reply to you elsewhere on this matter not help?
