Problem installing on XP running in Parallels

Post by tb43 »

I have Windows XP installed on a Parallels virtual machine (running on a Macbook pro). When I download the Textpad exe installation file I receive the following error: "An error occurred while downloading the file /WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe. What would you like to do?
Retry? Cancel." Pressing Retry just returns the same error.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to get TextPad installed on an XP installation running in Parallels?

Thanks.

It appears that you don't have the latest version of the Windows installer on your computer.

Please try to manually download and install the latest Windows Installer from Microsoft, and then install TextPad:

I'm sorry we can't offer any help with the "Parallels" issue, maybe someone else can.

Another possible way around this is to download the TextPad setup to a keyfob memory stick and install from the stick.

Hello again, sorry for this omission. This only works when the download to the keyfob is made on a computer which has the latest installer. Download on to the keyfob from the one, install from the keyfob onto the other.

I have no idea why this works, but it is necessary for a few programs I regularly update on my W2K.

As a happy Parallels (3 & 4) user, I've been able to install TP 5.x on Win XP, Win 7 RC1 and Win 7 Professional. I agree with Helios assessment, get your installer patched up and TP should install no problem.
