Are old versions free?

Post by BondG »

I'm in IT at a local college and I have an instructor who tells me she has a "free version" of Textpad that she would like installed in various labs. When I pressed her for some verification that what she had is free, she wasn't able.

I know other apps that charge for the latest/greatest version of their product, but give away old versions for free. Is TextPad one of these? Or is there some way this instructor could have an old, free version?

Thank much for any insight offered.

I been using Textpad for many years and never heard about a free edition of Textpad so i doubt a free version exists, but maybe you should wait for someone from Helios to answer to be 100% sure.

To answer your question, as gan says, there are no totally free versions of TextPad. However, if you have already purchased a license for TextPad 4, then upgrading to version 5 is free.

You can download an unlicensed version of TextPad for evaluation purposes, but if you continue to use it, then you must pay for it. If someone has purchased a single user license, they can install TextPad on multiple machines, but it must be solely for their own use. If TextPad is installed on multiple machines in a college, for example, for the use of its students, then the appropriate site license must be purchased.

I hope this helps.
