Search -> Find window disappeared

Post by rmscheller »

I have used TextPad for years. Always great.

But two days ago my search -> find (cntl+f) window disappeared. I can still use it but cannot see it. I just type blindly and hit enter. Obviously, all the other functions associated with it are in effect disabled as I cannot see them. Where did it go? How do I get it back?

Thanks!

Rob,

Maybe it has somehow moved outside the screen boundaries. Try this:
  1. Press F5 to start a Find.
  2. Press Alt+Space to open the window menu.
  3. Press M to select Move.
  4. Use the up and left arrow keys to move the Find dialog back onto the screen.
  5. Press Enter when it is in the desired location.

Andrew,

That worked. It was down behind my task bar, out of site. Thanks!

Missing find UI as well as find in files

Post by jwh_1997 »

This really irritating issue has been happening to me as well. Thanks to the poster that wrote the work around.

Textpad seems to be the only application I use daily that has the parent/child UI location issue. Just in case a developer would like to address the issue here are the steps:

Find and Find in Files UI
1. Open up Textpad and make sure you are not maximized.
2. Open up any document.
3. Use CTRL+F or menu option to get find UI.
4. Close the Find UI.
5. Move the application window so the location where the Find UI is off screen.
6. Use CTRL+F or menu for the Find UI.

The UI will attempt to redraw at the last location in respect to the application and wont consider the actual size of the user's screen. Other applications consider the size of the screen and make sure the UI is drawn where it can actually be viewed.

I have also often lost the dialog box. Until Helios fixes it, it can also be restored by exiting textpad and deleting the entries from the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Helios\TextPad5\Window Placement
part of the registry. textpad restores it with default settings when next started.

find dialog outside screen borders

I'm using the latest TP 5.3.1 and this is still not fixed. I know it sounds like a minor issue, but it is pretty annoying, and should be simple to fix.

Have you tried ak47wong's fix suggested previously in this thread?

work around works, but is not a fix

That's a handy work around (much better than exiting and restarting), but is not a "fix". A fix would be to not open the dialog off screen in the first place.
