WILD CARDS IN SYN FILES?

Hi All
Are wild cards allowed in syn files?
For example I want to highlight anyword that starts with an @
Suggestions?

Wild cards are not allowed in syntax files.

Keywords must complete "words", surrounded by space, or at the beginning or end of a line.
