Slow load time of TextPad in Vista...

Post by WartookMan »

I'm running Vista Utimate and each time I load TextPad, it seems to take longer and longer to load. It's now to a point where the time between double-clicking on a TXT file and TextPad opening the file is around 20 seconds. It's very frustrating and I now get into the habit of opening Notepad (eek) to make quick changes to HTML and TXT files.

Is there any configuration setting or logging (either within TextPad or via a 3rd Party product) that I can enable to see what is going on?

TextPad version: 5.1.0

How does TextPad behave when starting from a shortcut and not opening a file?

If TextPad is already running, does double clicking on a file to open it also take a long time?

Is there a network involved?

Its all about the right question, isn't it. To me, that's the right question. I waited to answer until I knew more. I think this is a vista thing and not a Text pad thing at all. if its running, its real fast, but if its the first time run after reboot its real slow and it seems to be a sort of "blocking call" to other activities on the computer until its happy and running.

I am running Sonar 7 on the same machine (in the past I've run audio on a dedicated audio workstation), and I just loaded it the same way (opening a big project as a part of the startup, first thing after a reboot running only totally unrelated software -- mail client, web browser, UltraVNC) and it took forever and didn't do a screen refresh until the last thing, so the computer appeared to sit here dead.

When there's a network involved (meaning program is local but loads file from remote source) it has always loaded fast (but I don't believe I've ever loaded a remote file without an instance of Textpad already running.

Thanks for your speedy response.

I am seeing the same behavior on Windows 7 RC 64-bit. Loading TextPad the first time after a reboot is really slow, I get the start-up logo and wait and wait. Once it's up and running it's as fast as ever. If I close TextPad, and load it again, it loads up fast.

Was anything ever figured out about this?
