Viewing two files simultaneously

Post by plazio »

Prior to version 5.x it was possible to view two different files at the same time by splitting the window. One could even synchronize scrolling of the two files. After upgrading to 5.03 I cannot find a way to do this. Splitting a window has the same file in both parts.

Am I missing something or is this feature gone?

If you disable the tabs you can tile documents and use synchronized scrolling. When tabs is enabled it doesn't work.
You probably find this a bit strange and would like this to work even with tabs enabled, but there are several posts here already where this is discussed. So you are not alone if you would like to see these features also when using tabs in version 5.x. You could search this forum and maybe find some more information about this issue, but i cannot remember that i read any useful answer regarding this issue....like when/if it will be implemented. Only the developers can give you an answer to that, but if the answer is not already to be found in this forum i doubt there is any reason to ask again.

I just upgraded from 4.6 to 4.7.3 and lost the ability to view a file on each of dual monitors for visiual compare functionality. If you are sure this functionality was not lost until 5+, can you remind me how to change my settings in 4.7.3 to get it back?

I don't think you are talking about the same thing here. It sounds like you want to run more then one instance of textpad. This thread is about using the "tile" function.
If you want to be ble to run more then one instance of textpad so you could have one file open using monitor 1 and a second file open using monitor 2 then select "Configure->Preferences" on the menu and then under "General" check "Allow multiple instances to run". That way you could have two documents open using two monitors. If you want to be able to "tile" using textpad 5.x disable the tabs like i said above. Unless i'm wrong you can "tile" and use tabs at the same time using any version of textpad 4.x, but it's some time since i used textpad 4 so cannot remember for sure.
