search..find uses an unclear grey highlight. I'd like it clear. Preferably blue, like notepad uses.

The appearance of the selection changes according to whether or not the selected text is in a document that has keyboard focus. When the Find/Replace dialog box is active, it has the keyboard focus. You can change the Selected Text (no focus) color using the method described in the online help under How to Customize Colors.
