Large files vanish

Post by jczahor »

I use textpad mainly to read large log files. I recently had a issue where I opened a 30,000 log file, search for data and then closed the file. When I went to reopen the file at a later time, the file was missing. Small files seem to work ok. has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do to fix the issue?

I work daily with a file of 30,000+ lines. Never encountered any problems (so far). But you're scaring the shit out of me now!

jczahor, suggest you take a look at the application that creates the logs, chances are that they are being compressed or moved to some backup folder etc.
(Sheesh you scare easily Leif)
Then I open up and see

I'd be scared too, if it was an important file. That's a lot of text.

Just to reassure you, TextPad always opens files read-only, so there is no risk of it doing anything nasty with your original file. It only overwrites the original when you save any changes. It certainly doesn't delete any files, unless you explicitly tell it to do so, using the Manage Files command.
