Feature: What if ....

Post by kfen »

I like WildEdit and will purchase it. I have been working with different tools under Windows in the past to search and replace over sets of files. The best before WildEdit came along was BK ReplacEM (for those who are interested ...)
What I miss with most tools is a 'what if ...' feature. The test is nice and helps me to develop search and replacement expressions. But I really would like to have a report of the effect of the expressions on the file set _before_ I run the expressions. The following infos would be useful:
# of files with a match
# of matches in all files
for each file: # of matches
for each file: match plus context :: replaced text plus context

Thanks for your feedback. It's good to know that WildEdit's not far short of your ideal requirements - given that it has just left the starting line!

We will try to implement useful enhancements in future releases, while taking care not to turn it into bloatware.
