InstallationDirectory Parameter under HKLM\Helios?

It would make some things a bit simpler for addins if TextPad would write a REG_SZ "InstallationDirectory" when it is installed, preferably under a version-independent key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Helios\TextPad\

It already does that; the key is (as recommended by Microsoft):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\TextPad.exe

Presumably Microsoft recommend this as it gives the false impression that all software is Microsoft.

Yes, one could suspect that. The real reason is that this key provides means to have an own path for ones application. For Details see MSDN Library.
