add file open dialog icon

Post by mike_d »

i know that this isn't a textpad specific thing, but figured that since I'm trying to implement it to be able to use the feature in textpad that I would ask here first.

I'm trying to find a utility to allow me to add a shortcut to the left side of the file|open dialog - I want to add a couple of new icons that allow me to add locations of my choosing. Did some looking around and didn't find anything. Any utilities/software/documentation that you know of to do this?

http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/home ... ertoys.asp
where you only need the TweakUI.exe. Look under Common Dialogs,
Places Bar, tick "Custom places bar". AFAIK you can only have five.
There are also TweakUI versions for Win2k etc, I forget where. HTH
Then I open up and see

a different way to be

the prob with editing the place bar using tweakUI is that when you customize it, you can only add their entries - vs. creating your own shortcuts

found the perfect answer tho: http://www.maddogsw.com/placesbar/

places bar is a real small util that is exactly what I was looking for. it turns out that half of the battle in this prob was determining what the official name was for that area in the file open dialog, once i figured out that it was called the "places" bar I was off to the races

thanks for the reply -- BTW, my TIDY stuff is still working great

Not so, you can't browse for them, but you can type them in, or paste ;)
