Workspace has too many files?

Post by LiquidPenguin »

I'm working on a project that has 25 files in a Workspace. For some darned reason, certain files aren't stored in the Workspace when I close Textpad. For example, one of the files I have is batch.msql. Some have oddball extensions such as .cgi.erroroutput.txt. Others have typical extensions such as simply .txt. All of these other files are referenced just fine.

I initially thought that it was caused by having odd extension of four characters since other .msql files also refused to be stored in that particular Workspace. However, when I created a new Workspace and stored just that one file name, it opened up just fine.

I even wrote a script to generate 25 files with the 26 ending in .msql and referenced them all in a Workspace. It opened up just fine.

I've had this particular Workspace carried through for at least 1 or 2 previous versions. Could that be the issue?

Things I checked/did:
I made sure the Workspace wasn't write protected.
I deleted the Workspace during an open session just to be certain.

Anyone have any idea what's up with that?

I'm using Textpad 4.7.2.
Windows 98SE.
And the files are spread apart in a bunch of different directories.

AHHA! I can replicate the problem now.

Create two directories. For example:

C:\test
C:\testB

Now save two random files, one each in each directory. So it looks like this.

C:\test\R1.txt
C:\testB\R2.txt

Now save the workspace. I saved it in the C:\test directory.

Close Textpad without closing any files (how you should normally do it).

Then reopen Textpad, then open up the previously saved Workspace. You should notice that R2.txt is now missing.

OK.... umm.... don't know what to do about it, other than rename the directories in question, but that's something I really don't want to do. :(

Will anyone validate this so I don't think I'm nuts?

Oh well, hopefully Helion will read this and include the fix in the next version.

Same here. I'm using Version 4.7.2 under Windows 2000 SP3.

Seems to be a problem if some files are "below" the workspace file and some are on other trees.

I never noticed, because I save ALL my workspaces in one place (D:\TWS\) - as I have far more than 16 (the limit on the recent workspaces list), and it is much easier for me to find my workspaces again...
And there are NO text files in my workspace folder...
