A minor annoyance, the select program dialog box.

Post by s_reynisson »

When I add a new tool from the Configure->Preferences->Tools,
with add program, the select program dialog opens in the
My Documents folder. Most of my programs are in the My Programs
folder or at root of the system disk.
Is there a setting to change this default?
Then I open up and see
the person fumbling here is me
a different way to be

Open TextPad, close all documents.

From the Main Menu: Configure, Preferences, Folders.

Edit Startup Folder for your desired path.

Close TextPad, and reopen it.

Were all documents closed, and did you close and reopen TextPad? I have done this a number of times using different paths and it always works for me on 2 systems. If I just click on Apply, OK, the change does not take place when adding a new tool.

TextPad 4.7.2, WIN98SE and WIN98.

Just to be sure, I am looking at Configure, Preferences, Tools, Add, Program.... Dialog opens with same path as defined in Folders, Startup.
Hope this was helpful.............good luck,

No. Opens in My Documents, no matter what I put in Folders, Startup.

Mine opens in the current working folder for me. All my folder locations are set to c:\Document And Settings\bfellows\* Let's see what else I have going. Under General, I have Working folder follows active document which is where the tool add dialog opened to by default.

Bob's method works for me.... :?: I'm pretty sure the "My Documents" folder is the default entry, so is the change not getting written/read correctly? Problem with registry key permisisons or something?

Ok, got it. Thx for all your help.
This is just plain weird. I'll try to to keep this compact.
1. talleyrand:I have "Working folder follows active document" ticked.
2. Going on CyberSlug's hint "Problem with registry key permisisons or
something?" I logged in as Administrator. And voila. Bob's method works fine.
3. Logged on as normally as a user who has admin rights. Started TP
from the Start menu and again Bob's method works fine.
4. This is my usual start for TP, and hence this mess. With the same user
as in number 3 above, I click a shortcut on my desktop to a txt file. And
TP defaults to My Documents folder.
In conclusion, it's not the same start for TP, from a shortcut on my
desktop or directly from the Start menu. Anyone care to take a stab at
that one?

I went to the properties of the TextPad shortcut on my Start Menu and the "Start in" field was blank! When you try to manually create a shortcut for TextPad, the "Start in" field is "C:\Program Files\TextPad" or something like that.

But I don't see why that would cause the problems you observe.

ROTFLOL! To much cheap-ass Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile for me!
(Taste is most splendid though :D )

Desktop shortcut: Start in "C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents"
Start menu: Start in " "
Thx for your help!
