device attached to system not functioning error

I am unable to view my files via the web browser. I get the message that is in the subject line.

I looked through here and FAQ but the answer for the regedit fix did not help since I don't have "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name " path. "\View Source Editor\Editor Name' does not exist there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to verify, you do have IE installed on your machine? I seem to recall someone else was having issues using the view via web browser but they didn't have IE installed which threw all sorts of things out of whack.

Yes, I do have IE. I am running on Windows XP.

No luck finding the problem?

Every time I make a change, I have to upload to my web server via ftp in order to view my changes. Taking up a lot of time.

I have listed out below the actions you need to take. You may have some of these implemented already.

1. Right click the web browser icon
2. Choose Properties / Programs
3. Select TextPad as the HTML editor
4 . Click OK

Next:

From the Explorer Tools menu choose:

1. Folder options
2. File types
3. Scroll down and click on HTML
4. If it is not associated to your web browser, click on Change
5. Select the Web browser
6. Click OK

Next:

In TextPad:

From the Configure menu choose:

1. Preferences
2. "+" next to Document classes
3. HTML
4. Check the View in web browser box

Please also ensure that the files are in the relevant folder, as listed under Configure / Preferences / Folders / WWW Root folder. This is the most likely cause of your particular problem.

Hi Stephen,

I did the last two things, but there wasn't a "programs" area when I did the below:

1. Right click the web browser icon
2. Choose Properties / Programs
3. Select TextPad as the HTML editor
4 . Click OK

I guess that coincides with nothing being available in regedit either. Looks like something is missing.

Instead of:

1. Right click the web browser icon
2. Choose Properties / Programs
3. Select TextPad as the HTML editor
4 . Click OK

Try this:

1. Left click the web browser menu for Tools
2. Left click on Internet Options
3. Click on the tab for Programs.
4. Edit the option for HTML editor, using TextPad.
5 . Click OK
