Java Errors

I am a computer science teacher and am having problems with TextPad for Java.

Problem #1:
Occassionally, the "Compile Java", "Run Application", and "Run Applet" options in the Tools menu seem to disappear. I try going to the Configure menu under preferences to get those options back, but the "Tools" option in the preferences is not always there. Rebooting the machine can sometimes fix this problem.

Problem #2:
When running applets, I sometimes get an "applet not initialized" error. This error is not always correct, because sometimes rebooting the machine seems to miraculously fix the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.
