Hello,
Can someone help me with this... I have Windows 2000Pro running 4.7 with the CD file-0pen patch.
With the initial install of 4.7 I changed to UTF-8. This turned out to cause me problems with my site-search tool. After installing the CD file open patch I changed back (unchecked UTF-8 in preferences under the default and all other document types).
Now whenever I go to SAVE AS, I am given UTF-8 as the default. This happens with new documents, and old documents whether previously saved as UTF-8 or not. The only exception is a UTF-8 document where I have changed the setting in the SAVE AS dialog.
Does anyone else have this problem...and would anyone with a similar set-up be willing to do a switch to see if this is a problem unique with me or is a bug?
------------------------------
EDIT
ok the only way I have been able to deal with this successfully is to roll back to 4.6.2.
Uninstalling TP and installing the unpatched 4.7 did not solve the problem.
Uninstalling TP and installing 4.6.2 and installing 4.7 over it did not solve the problem.
Thank you

Keith,
As mentioned in several e-mails to support, none of my document classes have UTF-8 checked.
Also: I have tried uninstalling 4.7 (with CD patch) and re-installing 4.7 (without patch), and uninstalling 4.7, installing 4.6.2 and reinstalling 4.7 and none of these work.
_______________
EDIT:
In addition I have done things like switch UTF-8 on again and then switch it off (checking all document classes.
I have had to switch back to 4.6.2.

Problem Solved
Keith/Stephen,
As I should know by now, whenever I get worked up about someone not understanding me, it's usually because I am not understanding them. Apologies.
That said, the problem originates from a confusing aspect of your Configure/Preferences dialog:
You have two items to check off for UTF-8 utility.
"Write UNICODE and UTF-8 BOM"
and the Default encoding.
I had only changed the former.
When I first upgraded to 4.7 I did not change the Default encoding (I only checked off the former item), so naturally did not think to change it back. However that is clearly what you and Stephen have been talking about.
