Default files

Now that I'm starting to work with images, I "have to" put the files in the default directory or I get all kinds of errors. Before working with images I could save the files anywhere & they'd run fine. I went into preferences and changed all the default directories to the one I'm currently working in, but that didn't work. Besides, I don't want to have to change them for each program I'm working on.

So, what's the fix when working with images to get the file to run from "any" directory? I'm putting images on buttons (which in the previous question I just posted doesn't work unless you run it in appletviewer)...
