colors not showing up

colors not showing up
I have set my preferences to show colors but for some reason it does not show on the screen. I just loaded Textpad on a Compaq Presario 1700 series laptop. Any ideas?

Go into Configure -> Preferences...
Expand Document Classes in the tree window.
Expand Java in the sub tree.
Select Syntax.
Check Enable syntax highlighting
In the Syntax definition file combo box select "java.syn".
Select "Apply" or "OK"
You should be in business. If you can't find "java.syn" your missing the file. Run the Install engine for Textpad and select "Repair."
If you're still having trouble, try reinstalling. (I did and it worked. It still took a few minutes to get my preferences to how I like them though.)

I did the obove sugestions and this still did not take care of no colors showing up.
