open a new instance for every file

Hi,
I want to open a single instance for every file I double click that is associated with Textpad. I've been over every setting in Textpad none of them seem to make any difference i.e. TextPad opens files in the same instance. This is annoying as it's hard to tell what files I have open / hard to find files I've opened.
I see similar posts referring to Preferences->Allow multiple instances to run, this setting sounds like it should do the trick yet makes no difference !
I've also fiddled with Preferences->View->Tabbed Document Selector, this doesn't make any difference other than to change the 'Tabbed Document Selector' view.
Is there a registry setting I can set to change the behaviour ?
My OS is Vista Business.
Thanks
